What is Professional Development at Bath Spa University?
The CPD department at BSU offers a wide range of specific in-service courses to all qualified school teachers, lecturers, private trainers and those involved in people management.
Professional Development for teachers can cover a variety of needs and opportunities. The hallmark of our professional development is its emphasis on the 'reflective practitioner'. Although teaching is a very practical activity its quality and successful outcomes are often the product of a deeper understanding of educational expectations, institutions and their curricula, pedagogy and of learners themselves.
For teachers, all of these courses are fully recognised by the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) and Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and can be used as part of a Professional Development Programme, as evidence for application to the DCSF for the THRESHOLD Career Enhancement Grade.
In addition, our exciting new work-based Professional Master's Programme award in Educational Practice allows all participants to achieve a Master's Degree, through the accreditation of work-based learning activities within their schools, colleges, training and management centres. We would strongly encourage all qualified Teachers (QTS status from both State and Independent schools as well as part-time and supply teachers), lecturers and trainers to apply for our CPD in-service courses and postgraduate awards as we generally offer very competitive fees. Most of our in-service and flexible learning courses carry automatic credit opportunities towards a third of a Master's degree within your field of work. We also offer prior learning credit for previous postgraduate courses that relate to your chosen area of specialism completed within the last 6 years.
