Borrowing

Borrowing can be done at any time the libraries are open via the self-service machines.  Don't forget to print out your receipt when you've finished so you know when loans are due.  Do not forget that you are responsible for any item issued to your card - don't lend it to anyone else and, if you lose it, let Library staff know as soon as possible.

Loan allocations

Loan allocations can be made up of any combination of items - books, audio-visual materials, DVDs, videos, CDs, etc.

Students on taught courses (including undergraduate, Masters, PGCE) 15 items
Students on research programmes 25 items
Academic staff 25 items
Support staff 15 items

PGCE students are able to borrow an additional 10 Schools Resource items (upto a maximum of 25 items) in recognition of their need to use both teaching resources and scholarly material. A maximum of 15 items from the main stock is imposed in the interests of fairness to students on other courses.

Reference items and journals cannot be borrowed and should be returned to their place on the shelves when you have finished with them.

Loan periods and fines  **New rates from 1 October 2012**

The Library will send out emails to remind you that you have items about to become overdue and once they are overdue - this is a courtesy service only.  It is your responsibility to ensure that loans are renewed or returned on time.

The Library operates a number of different loan periods to cater for differing demands on the stock. Fines are charged on all overdue items so do check the return date on your self-service receipt and return or renew items by that date.   If you are worried about any debts you owe to the Library, please come and talk to one of the staff.

Standard loan 3 weeks 25p per day, to a maximum of £7.50 per item
Week loan Red band 50p per day, to a maximum of £7.50 per item
3-day loan DVDs / Videos / CDs 50p per day, to a maximum of £7.50 per item
Reference Blue band May not be removed from the Library

Most loans can be renewed and items on loan can normally be placed on hold.

Fines can be paid at the Reception Desks or by using the self-service machines

Please ask any member of library staff for assistance with using this service.

If loans are not returned or are lost or damaged...

If loans are not returned, you will eventually have your library privileges withdrawn and be charged replacement costs at the full, current price for each item or £15 whichever is greater.  If loans are lost or damaged, then the full replacement costs or £15 (whichever is greater) will also be applied.   Please try not to let it get to that stage!
