Money
Student Support is aware that University life can a be a period of significant financial strain and juggling money between academic, personal and social life can be a challenge; it is for these reasons that Bath Spa offers students the following financial support options:
Money Advice
Working with students to provide practical advice on managing your money and enabling you to deal with any issues that may arise.
Our aim is to encourage students to take control of their money, before getting into difficulties. We believe that prevention is better than cure, and although the we offer assistance should you find yourself in financial hardship, we hope that we can help you avoid some of the pitfalls of student finance.
We have a professional Money Advisor, with whom students can book appointments to discuss and/or resolve their financial problems. If you would like to make an appointment please email us at studentsupport@bathspa.ac.uk.
Emergency Loan
This is an interest free, short term, repayable loan (repayable within 30 days); lending students a maximum of £60 a week.
Access to Learning Fund
This a non-repayable fund, reserved for students in financial hardships. Students will need to demonstrate their financial circumstances with supporting evidence. Applications are assessed on a four weekly basis and can submitted throughout the academic year and summer vacation. Student Loans Company Warning
Urgent Warning!
Please be aware that there have been reports of fraudsters
sending ‘phishing’ emails to students in order to access online student
accounts and change student’s bank details in order to take
money.
Please note: If students give their logon and password details to anyone
these people can use this information to change the bank details on the
student's student support account and then all SLC grant, loan and BSU
bursary payments will be re-routed to the fraudster's account and the
student will receive nothing.
What to look out for?
The SLC NEVER asks students to confirm login and password
details so any email that they receive asking them to confirm this
information is bogus.
What to do if you receive a bogus e-mail
The best thing to do if you receive one of these emails is to forward it to phishing@slc.co.uk The SLC will locate the bogus website and get it taken down. Therefore students can protect both themselves and other more vulnerable students by merely forwarding all phishing emails.
If students think that they have been caught by one of these attacks they must report it to the SLC immediately. Students are most likely to be targeted in the weeks leading up to a grant and loan payment date so they must be especially vigilant at this time.
